Day trips from Morro Jable: Isla de Lobos, Lanzarote and the island's interior

From Morro Jable you can head to the neighbouring island, to a protected islet or to the villages of the interior. This guide separates what needs paperwork or planning from what can be sorted out the same day, with information from official sources.

Isla de Lobos: the pass comes first

The islet of Lobos is a protected natural area within the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve. To stay on it you need the Lobos Island Pass: it is mandatory, free, personal and non-transferable, and it does not include transport. You must carry it with you, as it can be checked at any time.

Apply in advance: the Biosphere Reserve website says 5 days before the visit, and other guides give different lead times, so don't leave it to the last minute. Applications are made online through the "Lobo Pass" link on that website.

Boats leave from Corralejo, in the north of the island, and the crossing takes about 15–20 minutes according to guides. Naviera Nortour, which operates from Corralejo harbour, also offers a glass-bottom boat. From Morro Jable, allow a full day.

Lanzarote in a day

The Corralejo–Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) ferry takes about 25 minutes on the fast boats and is run by Líneas Romero and Fred. Olsen, among others. Timetables vary by day and season, and the sources we consulted disagree with each other: always check the shipping line's own.

There are also organised excursions to Lanzarote from Fuerteventura. Some include Timanfaya National Park, a wine tasting in La Geria, the Jameos del Agua, the ferry crossing and lunch in Haría; compare what each one includes.

The interior: Betancuria and Pájara

Betancuria, the island's former capital, is a historic village in the interior. Pájara, which gives its name to the municipality of Morro Jable, is known for the doorway of its church, with reliefs of suns, moons and snakes of pre-Hispanic character and the date 1687 carved beside the main entrance.

Several small-group excursions tour these villages with stops at farms, to taste goat's cheese or see an aloe vera plantation.

At sea, from the Jandía coast

Companies in the area run boat trips (catamaran, dolphin watching, snorkelling), jet skis and buggy tours through the Natural Park. The offer changes from year to year, which is why we don't list it here: write to us and we'll tell you what is available on the dates of your stay.
